Cape Breton or bust

Hey, kids! It's time for another road trip with Auntie Kiki! Remember how much fun we had going south last year? Let's head north this time. In fact, let's head about as far north as our little car can take us. Let's go to CAPE BRETON.

What?

Where the hell is that?

Okay, okay. Bea, cue the Google map.

Cape Breton is a large island at the top of Nova Scotia. It's fairly remote; it was part of a tug of war between the Native Americans, French, British, and Scots over the past 400-some-odd years; and the Cabot Trail is said to be one of the most beautiful places in the world.

The tip top of the island is a place called Meat Cove. Yes, bacon lovers, Meat Cove.

If all goes well, we'll be camping there Sunday night.

As with the trip south, I have done research, but not planned. Planning is so . . . safe, n'est-ce pas? I just have a general checklist of things to accomplish:

1. Visit a living history museum
2. Drink whisky
3. High five a puffin
4. See a whale from shore
5. Listen to fiddlers in a pub
6. Entertain you each day with my adventures

Of course it's been difficult to plan. The kiddos were all up in my bidness.

Little do they know, they'll be taken care of by this guy:

Well, that's what he looked like the last time I saw him. He's all growed up now. For his amusement, however, I stuck this picture to the fridge to greet him and his girlfriend. Have fun, Joe!

So I have to go now and hide any dodgy belongings in a far away place and finish packing and get on the road. First overnight stop: Fredericton, New Brunswick.

See you on the other side!
